☀️ UV Awareness in Tasmania:
Despite the chilly weather, UV levels in Tasmania can be dangerously high even in winter.
🧭 We're closer to the Antarctic ozone hole, meaning less ozone protection from harmful rays.
🌥️ UV rays still penetrate cloud cover, so overcast skies don’t mean you're safe.
❄️ Cooler temps can trick you into skipping sun protection, but your skin still absorbs UV radiation.
Stay sun smart all year round:
✅ Use SPF 30+ sunscreen
🕶️ Wear sunglasses and a hat
🌤️ Check daily UV levels
👚 Cover up, even on cool or cloudy days

🧴☀️ The 3 Main Types of Skin Cancer ☀️🧴
Here are the three main types to watch out for:
🔹 Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)
Often appears as a shiny bump or pinkish patch, usually on sun-exposed skin. It’s the most common type and grows slowly.
🔹 Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)
May look like a scaly red patch, sore, or wart-like growth. It’s more aggressive than BCC and can spread if not treated.
🔹 Melanoma
The most dangerous form. It can develop in an existing mole or appear as a new dark spot. Early detection is critical, it can spread quickly.
🧠 If you notice any changes in your skin, don’t wait.

☀️ The ABCDEs of Melanoma – Know the Signs
Early detection can save lives. When checking your skin, watch for these warning signs:
🔤 A – Asymmetry: One half doesn't match the other
🔤 B – Border: Edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred
🔤 C – Colour: Uneven colours like black, brown, tan, or even red or white
🔤 D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
🔤 E – Evolving: Changes in size, shape, colour, or new symptoms like itching or bleeding
